The Course Aim

The aim of the course is to increase understanding of the principles of good prescribing and therapeutic decision making in relation to the revised RPS Competency Framework for all Prescribers

 

Learning outcomes

 By the end of the session participants will have:

  • Developed an increased understanding in the processes involved in therapeutic decision making and factors affecting it.
  • Increased understanding of their own prescribing practice.
  • Greater understanding of how and where drug errors take place and strategies to reduce error.

 

Course content

  • “Keeping tabs” on the influences on you as a prescriber – therapeutic decision making and factors affecting it.
  • “Keeping tabs” on your own prescribing – prescribing safely and accountably
  • “Keeping tabs” – an exploration of the common pitfalls in prescribing and medicines administration and analysis of drug error case studies.
  • “Keeping tabs” on your professional development as a prescriber – issues, opportunities and considerations.

 Trainer

Our trainer Colin Waldock MA BSc PhIP, MCSP , is an Associate Lecturer at the Medway School of Pharmacy for the prescribing programme and works part time at Physio2fit as Consultant Physiotherapist where he uses his prescribing skills on a daily basis. His area of specialty is musculoskeletal pain.  With over 30 years experience in Physiotherapy, he has been annotated as a prescriber on the Health and Care Professions Council since 2006, and as an Independent Prescriber since 2014.  Colin is a reviewer for Versus Arthritis and the Journal of Prescribing Practice and he is undertaking a PhD researching the effect of Non-Medical Prescribing on what it means to be a Physiotherapist
